Combustion and Process Safety PEF2106

Læringsmål

The students get an introduction to combustion theory, combustion applications and models for consequence analysis in process safety. They shall be able to make calculations of such systems.

Innhold

The course consists of the following topics: laminar premixed flames, burning jets, turbulent flames and combustion of droplets and solid fuels, formations of combustion-derived pollutants, sonic flow, shock waves, Riemann problem and detonations. Hydrogen society is discussed. Physical models used for hazard assessment in safety impact studies such as fires and explosions are presented. CFD codes for dispersion and gas explosion simulations are introduced. Case histories from the process and the off-shore industry are used as examples. Accidental investigations techniques and human resistance are described.

Organisering

Lectures, exercises, guest lecturers and field trips.

Vurderingsformer

Written mid semester examination counts 30% and written final examination counts 70% of the grade. No study aids permitted.

Det tas forbehold om mindre justeringer i planen.
