Learning outcomes;

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The candidate:

- Has knowledge of business communication

- Has knowledge of research and development in the subject field

- Can update their knowledge of the subject

- Has knowledge of how English is used in international contexts as well as social and cultural conditions in English-speaking countries

Skills

The candidate can:

- Use spoken English in social situations

- Use English as an international language

- Give oral presentations of material related to course topics

- Write business documents

- Reflect on practical, theoretical and ethical issues in work situations

- Use knowledge of social and cultural conditions of English-speaking countries

General competence

The candidate can:

- Exchange views and experiences orally and in writing

- Complete course exercises and assignments

- Communicate orally and in writing on subject topics

Innhold

Students will prepare to work in an international environment with increased knowledge and skills in oral and written communication. They will gain knowledge of social and cultural conditions in English-speaking countries. The course includes an introduction to basic English grammar. Students will be given an opportunity to expand their Business English vocabulary. The course also focuses on exercises in social English and oral presentations. Students will also read and discuss articles and topics from the course textbook, which will provide insight into business communication skills. The course will also focus on writing business correspondence and documents. Students will discuss and work on case studies.

Arbeids- og læringsformer

Lectures, group work, written exercises and assignments, oral presentations, writing business documents, case studies and discussions.

Vurderingsformer

Oral examination (presentation and discussion of course topics individually or in pairs) which counts for 40% of the course grade. An individual written examination, 3 hours, which counts for 60% of the course grade. The course includes a number of obligatory assignments (up to 4) that must be approved before students will be allowed to take the examination.
