Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student
• participate in planning and development of IT systems and IT infrastructure for various organizations,
• evaluate ethical and legal aspects of the use of electronically stored information,
• understand the basic assumptions that electronic business models based on
• understand the role of electronic information in internal business processes.
The student will have skills in:
• design and development of models in spreadsheets for business purposes,
• design and development of text document templates,
• design and development of presentations.
Innhold
Contents
The theoretical part of the course is threefold: Part 1 is about hardware, network and software and provides the following topics:
- the structure and behavior of physical and virtual computers,
- construction and operation of networks and different types of IT infrastructure,
- information security and security architectures.
Part 2 deals with frameworks for the use of electronically stored information with an emphasis on ethics and the law and provides the following topics:
- Ethics and IT in organizations
- Relevant legislation governing electronically stored information
Part 3 deals with the conditions for electronic business models and provides the following topics:
- Technical requirements for online business models.
- Characteristics of the digital economyNetworks, internet access and interaction.
- Case studies and examples
The practical part provides the following topics:
- The construction of long documents with emphasis on styles and templates.
- The construction of presentations.
- The construction of spreadsheet models for economic purposes.
Most emphasis will be placed on the construction of spreadsheet models.
Arbeids- og læringsformer
Teacher controlled time: 4 hours lecture / computer exercises per week during the fall semester. Student's own time: A number of assignments and weekly tasks for individual or collective work will be provided. The use of e-learning system is of great importance in this course. Progress plans and all other information relating to lectures and tutorials will be available thence through the semester. The practical part has a lot of online support in the form of video-based solutions available from the e-learning system.
The design of this course makes it suitable for remote students.

Examination
4 hours final written exam. The required mandatory assignments mentioned above must be approved to take the exam.
