Læringsutbytte

After completing the course, the students should have the following qualifications regarding knowledge, skills, and general competence:

  • Students will be introduced to different social and environmental challenges posed by deteriorated water resources on a local, regional and global scale.
  • Knowledge of basic ecotoxicological terms, main sources, physicochemical properties, transport and distribution of main groups of environmental pollutants
  • Knowledge of major environmental uptake/excretion mechanisms
  • How to use geophysical and sedimentological methods to locate a well for drinking water supply, how a well in an infiltration aquifer works
  • Knowledge about water quality problems like natural manganese and chloride from road salting
  • Have knowledge about health risk connected to cyanobacteria, and how cyanobacteria blooms can be prevented.
  • Knowledge regarding how to select sustainable wastewater treatment solutions, including an overview of technologies available and treatment plant design options.

Arbeids- og læringsformer

The course will be based on one week’s lectures, lab work, excursions, discussions, group exercises and scientific articles.

Vurderingsformer

One week intensive summer course + individual report.
