Electric Power Analysis EPE2316

Læringsutbytte

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved knowledge, skills and general competence on power system components and general methods in power system analysis and computer tools.

Herunder:

  • Good knowledge on major power system components with equivalents used in manual andcomputerized calculations and typical data for such components.
  • Advanced knowledge on analysis of electric circuits and Load Flow in three phase networks. Furtherknowledge on optimal power flow in transmission and distribution networks.
  • Advanced knowledge on methods for calculation of both symmetrical three phase and unsymmetrical short circuit and earth fault currents based on theory of symmetrical components.
  • Knowledge on unlinear power system elements and their impact on voltage quality. Here included thepropagation of harmonics in power networks.
  • Good knowledge on different types of power system unstability and knowledge on the principals in analyzing of such phenomenon.

The candidate can:

  • Make significant contributions in central working tasks performed by organisations in planning, developing and operating of the power system.
  • Analyze voltage profiles and power flow and loss in complex transmission and distribution systems by computer programs and make manual control calculations of the data input and results.
  • Analyse maximum and minimum short circuit currents in complex transmission and distribution systems by computer programs and make manual control calculations of data input and results.
  • Understand the different mechanisms and analysis methods of power system stability.

Innhold

Description of all major power system components and loads with equivalent circuit diagrams as basis for the different analysis. The basis for all types of power system analysis is the Load Flow. In an integrated system operational costs should be minimized and introduction to optimal load flow will be given.
Calculation methods on short circuit and earth fault conditions in power systems including symmetrical component theory will be worked through. Different types of power system unstability will be described together with analysis methods.
