Power System Operation and Smart Grid EPE2216
Læringsutbytte
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence.
Knowledge.
The candidate have:
- Knowledge / description on how the Norwegian power system is designed and operated. Here included good knowledge on major components in power generation with focus on the hydro power plant, knowledge on major components in power transmission and distribution including design of high- andlow voltage switchgear and knowledge on electric load elements.
- Knowledge of common qualitative requirements to voltage and frequency deviations in electric power distribution.
- Advanced knowledge on frequency and voltage control in the power system.
- Advanced knowledge on different type of unit protection in high- and low voltage networks including power generation.
- Good knowledge on the design of an integrated operational center in power generation, transmission and distribution together with description of tasks performed by the center to day and also on future Smart Grid development schemes.
Skills.
The candidate can:
- Make significant contributions in central working tasks performed by organisations in planning, developing and operating of the power system.
- Analyze the impact of power inbalance on power system frequency deviations and effect of control actions. Analyze the impact of reactive power inbalance on fluctuations in system voltages.
- Develop electric protection schemes for power plants and transformer- and switching stations including selection of protection relays and adjustment of these.
- Describe SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Aquisition) systems of a operational centre on the basis of the knowledge of tasks performed by operational centre operators both traditional and future developments.
Innhold
This course will give an overview of the power system and will give details on the most important issues in power system operation. Hereunder topics on frequency- and voltage control and substation buildup with switchgear and electric protection gear. The basics in development of protection schemes in power systems including adjustment and coordination of different protection types. Overview of modern power system operational centre SCADA system and operational tasks within the centre will be given. Hereunder Smart-Grid development both in transmission and distribution systems.
