Students acquire knowledge of:

Students are able to:
• use basic scientific terminology, modes of explanation and theories in cooperation in cross-national groups.
• use and evaluate different tools that can be employed to bring scientific concepts closer to pupils
• discuss both academically and didactically, on basis of their studies and reflection during the course period, relevant cross-disciplinary themes, subjects and challenges.
General competences
Students are able to:
• keep themselves up to date on developments in the course subject matter, and reflect on their own professional practice in line with the idea of lifelong learning.
• maintain an awareness about own values facing local, regional and global challenges, and awareness of the impact of their teaching in contested issues
• reflect critically on scientific and didactical questions
Innhold
SPICA is a cross-disciplinary collaboration between teacher education institutions in the Nordic countries. The course consists of a virtual period with online seminar discussions, and a 6-day intensive course taking place in one of the seven partner countries, and is concluded by the writing of an individual reflection paper.
SPICA addresses contemporary issues in the local, regional and global context with a focus on conflicts of interest, natural resources, diversity, tolerance and dialogue. Nordic solutions to local, regional and global challenges, and nuances between these problem-solving approaches, will be investigated through interaction and discussions between students and teachers from the seven partner countries. The course also addresses different methods in teaching, such as flipped classroom, challenge based learning, and place based learning.
Arbeids- og læringsformer
The course consists of two distinctive parts, a virtual period and an intensive course week. During the virtual period, students will be required to watch and discuss a set of films and videos as a basis for preparative group discussions.
During the intensive week, a variety of activities will be employed, such as field excursions, discussions with experts, use of different kinds of source materials, and in-class discussions.
All parts of the program are mandatory.
Vurderingsformer
In order to complete the course, students are required to participate in all parts of the programme.
Participation in the group seminars during the virtual study period, and active participation with a group presentation during the intensive week is required.
All students are required to hand in a final individual reflection paper, which is graded pass or non-pass.
