Peace Building and Conflict Management 2603

Læringsmål

The students will gain a deeper understanding of peace work by combining theory and practice. The course is open to Norwegian students, thereby promoting interaction between students from different cultures.

Innhold

The course will focus on a number of issues such as: problems, causes and consequences of war and peace,  developing a peace culture, peace education, the role of the United Nations and of non-governmental organisations, issues of world poverty, environmental degradation, nuclear threat, refugees and issues of immigration, political and individual strategies for world peace, conflict management, global perspective and international solidarity, cross-cultural and non-violent communication,  the peace movement, peace, politics and direct action.

 

Organisering

Lectures, projects, role play, practical internship, discussions, excursions (mandatory), media analysis. The language of instruction is English.
2-3 hrs/week, 16 weeks pr semester, fall semester.

 

Vurderingsformer

Portfolio including: One 3-5-page paper + one 10-page paper together count 50%, oral presentation 25%; attendance (min 80%) + class participation + log counts 25%. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course.
