Course descriptions
Students will develop a list of readings (approx. 250 pages) and write an original term paper on the basis of participation in course 2606 Ecophilosophy which is described as follows:
" Topics discussed include alternative views concerning the relationship between nature, culture and self. The students will work on developing their own view of the world. We will also practice looking at the world through the perspective of other living beings, for example through conducting a “Council of all beings”. We will look at the Norwegian roots to the worldwide deep ecology movement and look at the philosophy of the Norwegian “friluftsliv” (“Outdoor Life”). An outline of different movements, such as social ecology, ecofeminism, bioregionalism will be given, including critiques and responses to the field of ecophilosophy and deep ecology. The students will be presented with different ethical approaches and how we value life. The course will also take a critical look at the consequences of the forces of globalization and look at the ecophilosophical critiques of these forces and the conditions for an ecological sustainable development."
