Norwegian Communication: Spoken and Written 2618
Læringsmål
After completing this consolidation and progress course in Norwegian Language upper level, the students should have a level of ability primarily in spoken Norwegian which will allow them to participate actively in at the academic level and interact effectively in Norway society.
Students with basic proficiency in Norwegian writing and speaking skills will take their current skills to a higher level of appropriate vocabulary, language structures, and confidence in expressing themselves in a Norwegian oral communication context. Listening and speaking skills will be focused on while comprehension of written texts will support the oral training.
The more advanced student will be able to lead discussions and give presentations effectively, conduct interviews and surveys among Norwegian-speaking persons as well as to create written texts with relative ease.
Innhold
This course is highly recommended for students who desire to reinforce and intensify lower and/or upper levels of knowledge and usage skills of Norwegian language (grammar, orthography, vocabulary, pronunciation). On the basis of language competency, students will define their individual learning goals in collaboration with the instructor. The students must be prepared to work toward their own goals and collaborate with other students, both in and outside class to achieve their aims. The focus will be on activating language in context and will include various writing exercises and speaking genres and tasks on various themes related to Norwegian society and culture.
Organisering
Language lab, language discussion groups, journal writing, student-led discussions of literary texts and newspaper articles, group work, presentations, interviews in the local community, self study. Norwegian is the course language. All tasks and exams will be in Norwegian.
Vurderingsformer
Weekly, mandatory homework assignments, one semester test which willl count 40%; Final oral exam counts 60%. Letter grades from A-F, last passing grade is E. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course. Attendance is expected. All written work must be original work, not used in other courses.
