Læringsutbytte

Knowledge:

Students will aquire knowledge about many aspects of politics and economic development in the Nordic countries, including similarities and differences between them.

Skills:

Students will be able to analyse and discuss the different aspects of the Nordic model. Students will be able to search relevant additonal information and facts about Nordic model and be able to discuss emperical patterns in the various Nordic countries.

General competece:

Students will enhance their capabilities in critically analysing questions about the Nordic model and enhance their understanding of economic development in the Nordic countries.

Innhold

The course gives an overview of political and economic systems in Nordic countries. Various topics like state structure, political culture,regional and local politics, the welfare state model, labour relations, gender equality will be focused. The main focus is on the three Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, but Finland and Iceland are also included in some of the topics.

The sustainability of the welfare state models in context of current and future challenges such as aging and flows of immigrants will be discussed.

Arbeids- og læringsformer

3-hour lecture with class-discussions pr week.

Vurderingsformer

A four hour final written exam.
