Læringsutbytte

The aim of e course is to balance theory and fieldtrips to give the students an understanding of the important role “Friluftsliv” (Open Air Life) has played and still plays in the Norwegian society. The course will give insight into tradition and trends in winter activities with a special focus on the history of Telemarkskiing

Knowledge

During the course the student will be introduced to the role skiing has played as a daily life necessity and how winter sport dominate as a leisure activity today. The students will acquire knowledge about management and administration of the outdoors in wintertime, and learn how and why small children get an opportunity to practice skiing in kinder gardens and schools.

Knowledge about historical and political facts in relation to Norwegian Outdoors as well as the history of Telemarkskiing will be reviewed.

Skills

Be able to practice basic skiing in the nearby surroundings

Be able to prepare and maintain their own skis

Be able to understand and discuss the potential of Friluftsliv according to physical and mental health.

Be able to explain the development of Friluftsliv in Norway as well as the history of Telemark skiing

Be able to discuss the value of skiing in children`s development

General competencies:

Be able to understand Norwegians` interest for wintersport

Be able to discuss the potential of Friluftsliv according to health as well as in children`s development

Be able to understand and discuss environmental challenges connected to nature management

Innhold

Experiental learning is an integral part of this course. All fieldtrips take place on skis.

Instruction in cross-country skiing will be given.

Diversity, right of public access to open country and “no trace hiking” will be reviewed

The fieldtrips will give students a deeper understanding of topics taught in class

The students have to practice skiing, in order to have fun in the snow and understand the value of physical activity in the outdoors

The students will get skiing equipment from the school
