Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems FM1006
Læringsmål
Learn how to formulate dynamic models based on the mechanisms that drive the systems, with special emphasis on simplifying assumptions. Learn methods for simulating (solving) the resulting mathematical models. Learn basic techniques for model analysis.
Innhold
Formulation of dynamic models based on material, momentum, and energy balances. Mass conservation in reactions. Overview of constitutive equations (reaction kinetics, thermodynamic models, transport laws). Modeling of coupled systems (co- and counter current flow, recirculation, etc.). Elementary systems theory: solution of linear models, stability.
Solution of models using computers. Accuracy and sources of error in numerical work. Numerical solution of sets of linear- and non-linear equations. Interpolation and extrapolation. Numerical differentiation and integration. Numerical solution of ordinary differential equations and systems of equations. Boundary-value problems for ordinary differential equations. Partial differential equations. Optimization and curve fitting. The use of computer tools for numerical computations (Matlab).
Organisering
Lectures, exercises, and the use of relevant software for PCs. Intermediate tests such as group projects w/ oral presentation and mid term tests will be used.
Vurderingsformer
Grading is based on an intermediate test which counts 30% and a final test which counts 70% in the final grade. It is necessary to pass both the topic of modeling and the topic of simulation in the final test, in order to get a passing grade.
Det tas forbehold om mindre justeringer i planen.
