Control with Implementation SCE1106

Læringsmål

Learn basic systems theory for solving the most common process control problems. Acquire practical skills in implementing a compound control system including a practical discrete-time PID controller, a measurement filter, and a control system simulator based on a mechanistic model and an estimated transfer function model of the physical process.

Innhold

The course consists of two parts: (1) Systems theory for dynamic systems. Feedback. Stability. PID-controller design and tuning. Discrete-time systems theory and controller design. Simple adaptive control (gain scheduling). Feed-forward control. Dead-time compensation. Cascade control. Introduction to multivariable control. Using Matlab for analysis, design and simulation. (2) LabVIEW programming. Implementation of a compound control system in LabVIEW for a physical process, including a practical discrete-time PID controller, a measurement filter, and a control system simulator based on a mechanistic model and an estimated transfer function model of the physical process, using a PC with LabVIEW-based software and I/O hardware.

Organisering

Lectures. Group assignment.

Vurderingsformer

The final grade is the average of the grades of Part 1 (theoretical part) and Part 2 (project part). Evaluation of Part 1: A final test counts 35% and an intermediate test counts 15%. Evaluation of Part 2: A mandatory project work in student groups counts 30% and an individual, final test counts 20%. To obtain a passed grade it is necessary to pass Part 1, and to pass both the project and the individual test of Part 2.
