Læringsmål

The students will get basic knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS). The course will consist of theory and exercises. To be familiar with GIS it is important to practise on the computer, so many exercises are necessary. There will be some database theory and practise of databases in the course. The student shall get a basic platform for further practicing of GIS in connection with other disciplines.

The students will learn

· about geographic information systems

· to use GIS programs like ArcView and Idrisi

· how to build and handle GIS databases including queries

· how to structure a GIS project

· about raster and vector GIS

· about GIS analysis like buffer zones and overlay analysis

· how to visualize the geographic information
