Læringsmål
Course goals
After completing this consolidation and progress course in Norwegian Language upper level, the students should have a level of ability in written and spoken Norwegian which will allow them to participate actively in society and with extra work attend literature courses in Norwegian.
Students with basic Norwegian writing and speaking skills will take their current skills to a higher level of appropriate vocabulary and language structures, confidence and understanding of culture, understanding written texts and better written expression: short passages on current issues.
The more advanced student will be able to lead discussions and give presentations effectively, conduct interviews and surveys among Norwegian-speaking persons as well as to write reports and essays with relative ease and fluency.
Innhold
Course description
This course is highly recommended for students who desire to reinforce and intensify lower and/or upper levels of advanced knowledge and language skills (grammar, orthography, vocabulary, pronunciation) and gain a deeper understanding of Norwegian culture, past and present. On the basis of level of language competency, students will define their individual learning goals in collaboration with the instructor. The students must be prepared to work toward their own goals and collaborate with other students, both in and outside class to achieve their aims. The focus will be on activating language in context and will include writing various genres and speaking exercises on various themes related to Norwegian society and culture.

Organisering
Learning methods
Lectures, seminars, parallel workshops, short report and essay writing, student-led discussions of literary texts and newspaper articles, group work, presentations, interviews in the local community, self study. Norwegian is the course language. All tasks and exams will be in Norwegian.
Vurderingsformer
Evaluation
5-7 mandatory homework assignments, semester paper (optional), two semester tests which count 50%; Final written/oral exam counts 50%. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course. Attendance is expected. All written work must be original work, not used in other courses.
