941 Systems and Control Engineering, master
Target Group and Admission Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in the fields of automation, data, electronics or mechatronics. Final exam in Mathematics III at TUC or equivalent are also required.
Aim of the Programme
The programme provides students with broad knowledge concerning the control and management of technical and industrial systems, based on systems and control theory and data-based solutions. Students will learn to connect measurement signals from real systems to data systems, perform advanced calculations, send control signals back, and report results to administrative data systems. The possibility of managing large amounts of data quickly and over large distances allows the utilisation of information from the physical system in a different way than by traditional automation solutions. The programme focuses on new technology, openness and standardisation. Students with different academic backgrounds will to some extent follow different study arrangements during the first semester. During the second and third semesters a number of different options are available.
Employment may be found in the public and private sectors, process industries, oil production, systems development, research, hospital management and teaching.
Further Education opportunities
A Master’s degree in engineering qualifies students to apply for doctoral studies at Telemark University College and other university colleges and universities in Norway and abroad.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION # Students of Systems and Control Engineering (SCE) with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, must take course 'Electric Circuits and Dynamic Systems' (ECDS) instead of course 'Object-Oriented Analysis, Design, and Programming' in the first semester. Course ECDS is run as a web based course, and the student should start the study sufficiently early to pass the final test of ECDS by the start of the first semester in their SCE study. The laboratory assignment should, however, be carried out during the first semester of the SCE study. THE CURRICULUM MIGHT BE CHANGED DURING THE STUDY PERIOD. |
Curriculum for Systems and Control Engineering.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The teaching includes traditional lectures, lectures combined with practical calculation exercises, practical assignments, course component examinations/tests and group assignments, etc. Students have the opportunity to write the Master’s thesis at an institution which collaborates with Telemark University College abroad.
The programme’s language of instruction is English, and the programme’s student group includes a number of international students.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
