Introduction
The programe provides an interdisciplinary education that combines ICT, finance, marketing and organizational subjects. It provides a vocational education but also give graduates a thorough foundation for further studies at the Masters's degree level. Modern ICT-tools and realistic cases/examples will be used extensively. The programe is taught with a combination of lectures, practical exerceses in datalabs and projectwork.
Target Group and Admission Requirements
This programme is aimed at students who are interested in the applications of information systems and how organizations can use ICT efficiently. The study programme provides broad competence in the intersections between information technology (ICT), economics and organization. There are great demand for candidates who have the in-depth insight into both business and ICT necessary for companies to make good strategic decisions. The study programme will qualify students for a wide range of positions in the ICT sector, as well as in private business and public administration. Typical job applications might include acquisition, implementation, marketing and sales of information systems, consulting services, instrcution and ICT-management, Applicants must meet general admission requirements or have prior experiential learning.
Aim of the Programme
The intention of the programme is to provide students with an interdisciplinary and professional education in computer technology, economics, marketing and organisation. Successful candidates will also be qualified to apply for entrance to Master’s degree programmes.
Learning outcome
A successful candidate will have the following:
Knowledge:
- basic knowledge of databases, web, multimedia, computer networks, ICT security and programming
- basic knowledge of economics, marketing, business and organization
- good understanding of work processes related to projects, ICT management, systems development and systems operation
- good understanding of the interaction between information technology, finance and organization
Skills:
- basic skills in manageing software services, basic computer networks, databases, web solutions and applications
- be able to participate actively in the planning and implementation of projects involving information technology.
- basic skills in mathematical and statistical methods
General:
- be able to find, evaluate and communicate technical material written and oral
- be able to apply knowledge to practical problems in the workplace
- have a good basis to update and develop their own knowledge and skills
Curriculum and structure
1st year of study

Optional courses

The study programme has a normal duration of three years, and successful candidates will receive a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Information Systems. The study programme consists of courses of one-semester’s duration.
The first year of study is equivalent to the one-year programme in information management and is also identical to the first year of the bachelor programme in computer science. The fisrt year provides a broad introduction to the key subjects of informatics. In the second year the programme includes courses in economics, marketing, law and organization. Tha last to semesters it is possible to choose courses in information technology, economics, mathematics and languages. During the last semester, compulsory subjects can be replaced by an internship, or study abroad by individual application.
Internationalization
It is possible to include 30 credits (one semester) at an educational institution outside Norway. There are agreements and funding for this, which students should get familiar with. More information here:
Teaching and Learning Methods
Lectures, practical exercises in the computer laboratory with supervision and project assignments. A large project will be completed during the last semester. The project will be carried out in groups and will often be supervised externally.
Theory and Practical Training
The study programme is vocational and interdisiplinary, but also teaches basic theory within the subject areas. Modern ICT-tools and realistic cases/examples will be used extensively. During the last semester, compulsory subjects can be replaced by an internship.
Assessment Methods
The student’s knowledge will be assessed in all of the courses. Lettered grades A-F (where F represents a failing grade) will be used; varied forms of assessment will be used; please refer to the individual course descriptions.
