Target Group and Admission Requirements

The target group consists of students who are interested in the applications of IT and how various operations can use technology efficiently. The study programme provides broad competence in the intersections between information technology (IT), economics and organisation. There is critical shortage of people who have the in-depth insight into both business and IT necessary for companies to make good strategic decisions. The study programme will qualify students for a wide range of positions in the IT sector, as well as in private business and public administration. Typical job applications might include consulting services, IT-administration, the design and operation of web-solutions and networks, marketing and sales. Applicants must meet general admission requirements or have prior experiential learning.

Aim of the Programme

The intention of the study programme is to provide students with an interdisciplinary and professional education in computer technology, economics and organisation. Successful candidates will also be qualified to apply for entrance to Master’s degree programmes.

Further Education opportunities

With a Bachelor’s degree in information systems, candidates will be qualified for admission to Master’s degree programmes. Telemark University College has student-exchange agreements with a number of foreign universities.

The study programme has a normal duration of three years, and successful candidates will receive a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Information Systems. The study programme consists of courses of one-semester’s duration.

Elective courses: It is possible to choose courses in information technology, economics, mathematics and languages.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Lectures, practical exercises in the computer laboratory with supervision and project assignments. A large project will be completed during the last semester. The project will be carried out in groups and will, as a rule, be organised externally.

Theory and Practical Training

The study programme is a practical one, but also examines basic theory within the subject areas. Emphasis will be given to using relevant tools and practical examples in the teaching. It is also possible for students to complete a period of practical experience abroad as part of the study programme, normally in the third year of study

Assessment Methods

The student’s knowledge will be assessed in all of the courses. Lettered grades A-F (where F represents a failing grade) will be used; varied forms of assessment will be used; please refer to the individual course descriptions.
