Target Group and Admission Requirements
In order to enrol on this study programme, students should have completed the one-year study programme in Sport Studies, or an equivalent professional sports education from another university college. The target group includes applicants who meet general admission requirements who are seeking subject and professional education in sports, administration and leadership/sports, training and administration.
This study programme in Sport Management qualifies for administrating and leading cases, projects and processes related to sports and outdoor activities in institutions, businesses and voluntary organisations on a national, regional or local level. The study programme, together with other qualifications may provide a basis for working in the following areas:
- Public sector
- Norwegian Sports Association and similar organisations
- Non-profit organisations
- Health, rehabilitation, and similar areas
- Travel, tourism
- Own company / business activity / project related work
- Trainer activities
Aim of the Programme
The study programme in Sport Management is interdisciplinary and professionally oriented. It will qualify candidates for sports-related administrative tasks and leadership in the public, private and volunteer-based sectors. Students will familiarise themselves with various aspects of the study programme through practical tasks and surveys, and thus experience how theory and reality interact. Students will develop insight into how to plan and organise sport and outdoor activities.
Curriculum and structure

The study programme attempts to provide a broad introduction to the framework requirements for sports, physical education and outdoor activities. In addition, the programme addresses central administrative challenges and tasks associated with this subject area. Students will gain experience in planning and carrying out sports arrangements and receive an introduction to topics in sports policy related to economics, media, sponsoring, business, marketing etc.
The study programme will, among other things, provide students with:
- Insight into different ways to organise and plan sports and outdoor activities
- Knowledge of key sports policy issues
- Insight into how sport and outdoor activities are organised within the public sector, in organised sports and in the private sector
- Experience in planning and implementation of events
- Knowledge of financial management in the culture and sports sector
- Knowledge of the organisation of health promotion and preventive measures with emphasis on physical activity and health
- Insight into key issues and methods in marketing

Teaching and Learning Methods
Throughout the study programme, students will be followed up by using teaching and learning methods which include lectures, excursions, practice, report writing, and group and seminar meetings.
The period of practical training will provide students with opportunities to apply knowledge and skills from the study programme and it is a goal that they learn to take responsibility for the completion of the assignments which they will be given during this period.
Assessment Methods
The forms of assessment include completion of attendance of mandatory instruction and excursions, submission of reports and assignments, written and oral examinations.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
