Y-VEI (Electric Power Engineering for applicants with certificate of completed apprenticeship) , bachelor

Target Group and Admission Requirements

Trade-school education with certificate of competence based on the foundation course electronics/electrical subjects.

Aim of the Programme

This is a new professional and pedagogically adapted programme where we build upon the student’s background from a trade-school education and letter of professional competence. Insufficient theoretical background in mathematics, physics, Norwegian and English will be compensated for without requiring additional study time, since the initial electricity and electronics subjects and some elective courses have been removed from the programme. In the electrical and electronics subjects, the Y-VEI students will be integrated with those who have previously studied general subjects.

Further Education opportunities

You may seek admission to the 2-year Master’s programme (civil-engineer programme) Systems and Control Engineering at Telemark University College or Master`s programmes at other university colleges and universities in Norway or abroad.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

EK5506 Project EK5 in the 5th semester, and PRH606 Main Project in the 6th semester, may be replaced by FB5106 Student Business Venture.

FBV5006 Mathematics III is recommended for students who wish to study for a Master’s degree in technical subjects.

It is possible to apply to have other courses approved as replacements for elective courses at Telemark University College and other institutions of education.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PROGRAMME MAY BE MODIFIED AT ANY TIME.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The Bachelor’s degree programmes at the Faculty of Technology are project-oriented, that is, many of the courses are conducted as projects. This pedagogical method provides students with greater responsibility for their own learning as well as experience with problem analysis, seeking information and problem solving. Work is done in groups, often in close cooperation with local businesses. The group produces a project report which is submitted, presented and defended in an oral examination. Most subjects are taken over one semester and include continuous assessment and final assessment and examinations.

Students will be offered an opportunity to study abroad during the programme. Telemark University College has exchange agreements with colleges and universities in Belgium, England, France, Italy, China, Nepal, Portugal, Sri-Lanka, Spain, Germany and the USA.

Students who have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering are qualified to apply directly for enrolment on the Master’s degree programme at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, if certain requirements are met.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
